A second personality with a hidden identity is called a Sock Puppet and is a fairly common tactic of trolling or desperation on more argumentative Boards.
When it is done right, it can be hard to pick out sock puppets, but there are signs. For example, despite the fact that my sock and I never posted in the same thread, and consistently misspelled different words I was once called out because my sock and I were the only ones on a board to use nested parentheses (like this (but with this part)).
There are a few socks on this board, but since we are such a civil group they do not seem to be part of any problems. Their identity is left as an exercise for the reader.
