At first the Avenger didn't have anything to defend itself with other then the rifles carried by the crew then they substituted one of the missiles with a .50cal and some ready ammo (200 rounds). Later they expanded this to 650.
In the game small arms ammo (unlike artillery or missiles) is handled in "bursts". So while an infantryman may carry 200+ rounds of ammo for their rifle in game they are given 90 (or less) "bursts".
