Original source of Doom Horrors?
Somewhat of an OT question- but does anyone know the mythlogical/literature source of Doom Horrors such as Krugi? I tried a google search, but I couldn't find anything.....

They don't have one, they're made up by illwinter, though they seem to take inspiration from some of the freakier Lovecraft entities.

Re: Original source of Doom Horrors?
there's also a parallel with the earthdawn RPG, especially the horror-marking thing.

Those are parasitic scabies mites. I hadn't thought of them as an inspiration but scabiel does look sort of like a mite, albeit larger than most. The Abomination of Desolation's appearance is based on deep sea fish faces and its name is a phrase from the bible, though the phrase doen't refer to an entity but an event.

The inspiration is definitely Earthdawn. I believe it's been mentioned by the devs at some point.
Bogus & crew might be an Earthdawn party. They'd fit the rules there better than most other games.

If figured they were composed of the negative emotions of the people of the world, hence their feeding on such emotions.

Re: Original source of Doom Horrors?
Ah how disappointing. Here I was hoping that they would have their origin in some obscure mythical/literary/occult source that would provide for some interesting reading material!
Alas no reverences to Astral projection, Alester Crowley, HP Lovecraft, the Lesser Keys of Solomon, or even the Bible- nope, we just made it up!

Re: Original source of Doom Horrors?
Quite a few of their references to have mythical sources, such as Koschei the Deathless and Baba Yaga for Bogarus's National Heroes. However Alexei the Patriarch does not, nor do many of the other characters. I'm pretty sure Percival the Pocket Knight doesn't exist anywhere, nor the Headless halfling type of thing.

Alexei the patriarch is based off of the Russian Orthodox Church and the skopty cults. Not a specific character but certainly based off of Russian culture.
