Do all spells that effect the battlefield affect friendly troops as well? For instance, casting Iron Bane will rust the armour of friendly troops as well as enemies? Can't seem to find confirmation on this.

Read the specifics. Some only affect enemies, some only affect friendlies, rather a lot affect everyone.

Yes, Iron Bane affects all troops, including your own. Pretty useful spell, if your enemy relies on protection.
