Re: Slightly OT - Interesting planet names
A heavily defended planet that a pbem player was about to attack was renamed HURT.
I liked that name.
The attacking player thought it was funny.

Re: Slightly OT - Interesting planet names
Do you think the game would be more interesting if there were a list of planet names the game draws from when generating a map? This would mean different names for every planet, maybe even moons and (extra) stars. Given a long enough list...

Re: Slightly OT - Interesting planet names
Gryphin, thanks for that interesting synopsis of your mental state. What on earth has John Norman got to do with this BTW?
Machiavelli, rdouglass, tesco and gauvar, thanks for the sensible input.
Anyone else care to list some names, please feel free.
Regards

Re: Slightly OT - Interesting planet names
You are quite welcome GrowlTigga. It is always my pleasure to provide you with important information. You have reveal a lot about yourself by admitting to know who John Noman is. The relevance is that I like the characters of Kamchack and Tarl Cabot and I do use their names for planets.
I also use names of various battles. I realize these are frequently applied to ships.
Lexington
Concord
Bunker Hill
Breeds Hill
New Orleans
Trenton
Ticonderoga
Normandy, (and the beaches there)
Bulge
Brittan
Shilo
Little Big Horn, (in your honor)
Hood
Alamo
You get the idea.
Noting you did not respond to the comment about being off topic.
Enjoy

Re: Slightly OT - Interesting planet names
I Tend to Use Themes for a Star Systems. Some of the phrases are spread across several planets. Yes, my systems will be easy to identify. So will my war ships.
Hmm, GrowlTigga grousing about being off topic? That is a first.

Re: Slightly OT - Interesting planet names
I like my alien worlds to have alien-sounding names, but I also like to be able to track what order they were colonized in.
I'll (usually) name the homeworld something similar to the race name, then go down the alphabet with the same consonant-vowel pattern.
For example, when I'm playing my Rrurrr, their homeworld is Rrur, and the colonies are Ssys, Ttat, Vvev, Wwiw, etc.
