Icon0071.shp error?
Just noticed something weird. Icon 748 (which is in Icon0071.shp), UH-1D/H, shows up in game for me as having a three bladed rotor. I checked my backup copy of the .shp and it was the same. Should be a two bladed rotor.

Re: Icon0071.shp error?
That's interesting. Icon 748 shows up in my copy as being a 4 blade rotor
Double check that Icon number and get back to me

Re: Icon0071.shp error?
Okay, well that's odd. Its the long fuselage UH-1/Bell 205 type helicopter icon, and is Icon 748 in Icon0071.shp for me and is the same in the backup .shps I have because I have edited my .shps (something I checked to make sure even though I haven't edited Icno0071.shp).
Are you saying that when you look at Icon 748 its only a four blade rotor, or that it has a four blade rotor? It should still have a two blade rotor unless the icon has changed to something different.
Also, when I open Icon0071.shp in SHPEdit, the rotors aren't shown in sequence with the helo icons (and I don't see them even when I manually increase the location number). So I'm not entirely clear where the rotor "turrets" for the icons in that .shp are either. Is there something wrong with my copy of the .shp and my backup? I could've backed up a bogus one along the way I guess, not out of the realm of possibility.

I'm saying that Icon shows four blades in the game, not two, and not three which is what you reported you saw

The rotors are not showing in sequence there because that file is set up in the code with the blades in a separate file ( Icon0008.shp to be exact ) some shp files were set up specifically for helos and were given the "turret" ( blades) from a file that already had them. When faced with installing hundreds of Icons this was a quicker way to do things.
All of this is obvious when viewing the Icon list found in the Game Data\Design folder . All "UH-1D/H" type Helos have a second number string of "843" ( that's a twin rotor ) but that Icon shows "840" ( that's the four blade rotor ) and this case it's a minor error that's been there since that file was first built and has now been corrected in code and will show up with the "proper" twin blades in the next patch

Good to know, I was not clear on that part of the master icon list. Now I know. It wasn't a problem (the unit still functions right), it was just something I saw and figured I would be my nitpicky self. I also wanted to make sure my .shps weren't messed up for some reason (I have done a lot of modding heh).

Re: Icon0071.shp error?
Just FYI , there are differences between the way SHPEdit reads the SHP files and the way the game code reads the SHP files.
The example I gave above for the UH-1D/H that is Icon 748 the code reads the "hull" and "turret" of that Icon as {7102,840}
The first number , 7102 indicates the game needs to look in Icon0071.shp for the body of that Helo and that it is the THIRD icon on the list.
The game code counts zero as the first entry. ShpEdit, on the other hand ,counts the first entry of an Icon file as 1, not zero, but what it counts as one is a non valid part of the file to the game. If you enter "2" into SHPedit after loading Icon 0071.shp SHPEdit will bring you to the wrong Icon. You need to ADD TWO to the numbers shown in the master icon list to get the SHPEdit entry so to find 7102 you need to open Icon0071.shp and look in the fourth spot to find that Helos "Hull"
The rotor is in 840 ( and to complicate this further 840 is incorrect and should be 843 and as I have noted has been fixed in the master code )
840 is Icon0008.shp but you do not want to look for the rotors in SHPedits slot 40 or you will find a F35 Draken. You need to add 2 to that number and look in slot 42 and you will find a four bladed rotor. The correct, two bladed rotor is 843 which to SHPEdit would be 45.
