Default Phoenix pyre, suicide thugs and 100% fire resist

I wanted to try to surprise one of my enemies in a ongoing game with a somewhat unorthodox tactic, namely swarms of Phoenix pyre thugs.

I was playing MA Abysia that have the flying Deamonbreed mages that have 100%FR 2F2B2H so I figured that I should try to do something like Phoenix pyre/single attack/Immolation/attack rear.

I figured that those that survived the first round of attacks would start throwing Immolation, since they all have 100% FR I wouldnt need to worry about friendly fire from the Phoenix pyre or the immolation, well it turns out I was wrong.

According to the manual every time one of my suicide squad dies they should cause a 10 square 50 ap explosion before they teleport around the battlefield. My guys seems to teleport first and then explode, which led to major casualties. The message log in the corner never mentioned Immolation so I dont think it was that which was killing my guys.

Oh, and shouldnt the explosion cause fire damage? I figured it would due to the name but the manual does not specify the damage type but my mages seems to be taking damage.

I attached a .zip file (can everyone open those? I know some people have problem with .rar due to proprietary compression code) with a save file of the battle. The map is Faerun 466 (no specials) that can be found at http://koti.welho.com/ehalttun/Dom3/ (btw thanks for the map Edi)

Phoenix pyre does not do fire damage. I know that they do damage before they teleport away but they might also do some damage after(I've seen some chain reactions set off, most of which I did on purpose).

It's worth noting that:

1.) You can use Communion Slave and/or slave matrixes to Phoenix Pyre anyone with at least one magic path.

2.) In practice, the damage dealt isn't even close to 50 AP. Maybe 15.

So what type of damage does phoenix pyre do? Is there any way of protecting yourself from it? It seems phonenix pyre gives limited (depending on fatigue) immortality but at the cost of taking lots of afflictions.

As an aside, does 100% fire resistance protect you immolation?

100% fire resistance should protect you from immolation(I know that 100% shock resistance protects you from shockwave).
I don't think there are any real ways to protect from phoenix pyre, although if it's ap then high protection may help.
