1939-1945
The 10. Infanterie-Division was raised in Bavaria as one of the Wehrmachts first wave divisions. It took part in the occupations of Austria, the Sudetenland and Czechoslovakia. In early August 1939 it was transported to the east of Germany and concentrated near Gross Wartenberg. There it received the signal for the coming invasion of Poland on the very last day of August:
Fall Weiss 1.9.1939 4.45 Uhr
and WWII began for the men of the 10. Infanterie-Division as they advanced across the Polish-German border into the thick morning fog of September 1, 1939, at precisely 0445 hours.
One of the less celebrated Wehrmacht formations the 10th division, later converted to motorised and finally Panzergrenadier status, would remain in the thick of the fighting throughout the war, chiefly in the east - where many of the troops were to remain, in unmarked graves,
ohne Kruez, ohne Blume.
This thread will contain scenarios chronicling the war service of the 10. Division.
