Terrible Mouse Lag on Menus!
Anytime I open up a menu, my mouse lags very badly. I have a dual 7900GTX SLI graphics setup, and an AMD X2 4800 chip and 2 gigs of memory, so it is not my setup. I've tried different graphics settings, including setting it to minimum, and it still lags just as bad. I've no problems with any other gamees, so it is definitely a SE 5 problem; I loved and modded the heck out of SE 4, I just hope Aaron gets around to fixing this right. I know he will patch it through eternity, but it's hell for it to be released with the number of problems it has had.
Oh well.

Re: Terrible Mouse Lag on Menus!
Turn off the SLI when you are playing se5 and see if that helps. Also make sure you don't have your video settings trying for force any type of filtering.

Re: Terrible Mouse Lag on Menus!
ALL menus? Or just certain menus? I get a huge delay with opening lists of ships, colonies, etc. But not when opening the ship design screen or the empire options menu.
When you open a list the game sorts through the existing 'world' to find all of whatever you are listing -- ships, colonies, etc. This takes some time for some reason. Perhaps the highly compressed format of the game data causes this, or maybe it's just some problem with the many layers of code and MM could optimize enough to make the delay less noticeable.

Re: Terrible Mouse Lag on Menus!
No, it was all menus, and I wasn't playing it windowed.
However, the solution was to turn off SLI. Who knew that the thing that made my computer a beast in all other graphics intensive games slowed it down in this?
gah, I love this game (and SE4 and SE 3), but heck, the programming is not up to par, I hate to say.
Oh well, I can only hope that Aaron patches SE 5 with the same intensity that he patched 4 and 3.

Re: Terrible Mouse Lag on Menus!
I'm seeing sluggish pointer performance generally, and this is most noticeable with ship design - my graphics setup is at the other spectrum performance-wise (GeForce2Go/1Ghz PIII) but SEV's graphics look simpler than those of, say, Haegemonia or HomeWorld 2 and these run reasonably well.
Does SEV use a hardware cursor? If not, then maybe this is the problem - it is the most irritating issue that I have encountered with SEV so far, so a fix would be nice.

Well it would be good to note there are alot of games that don't do so great with SLI. Also I am not sure anyone that was on the testing team had a SLI configuration they just are not that common yet. I do suspect that problems with this will improve as long as they are reported to Aaron.
