Song of the Blade - Open Slot
Hi All:
Alneyan requested that I start a thread announcing that the Song of the Blade game is looking for a replacement player to take over Arco.
Alneyan has been having computer problems, and the game will be on hold until he is able to get back (hopefully soon).

Re: Song of the Blade - Open Slot
As a player in that game, I would prefer to wait for Alneyan to get his system fixed. The game is pretty far along and putting in a permanent sub at this point would significantly change the dynamics of the game. In fact, Alneayn has a solid chance to get his first mega-MP win, and I would hope he has the opportunity to actually accomplish that objective without relying on a sub to share in a potential victory. I too have a solid chance to win it, as does Tauren and Blofeld (who also has yet to win a mega-MP game, I think). Although I do think that Blofled's position is the worst of the four.
However, if Alneyan is retiring permanently from Dominions, then I am inclined to end the game at this point in time and simply declare the four remaining superpowers as joint winners. I would rather retire the game than continue it without the original four players.
This has actually been one of my most enjoyable MP games so far.
Just my two cents worth.

Re: Song of the Blade - Open Slot
And lo! I could log on fine. Of course, my computer is still offline... though it might get fixed up in a couple of days. Not holding my breath for it, of course.
I still think the game ought to go on, one way or another, and soon: it has been two weeks (or so) since the last turn, so waiting any longer could be risky: at the rate things are going, the game will be long forgotten before I can start playing in again. Letting Arcos stale would probably be best than waiting another week or two, if nobody else can play for them.
I think there have been some... influences by the replacing players before, with Pasha taking over your BE for two weeks, and more importantly, Jurri handling Arcos for two weeks. Jurri is far better than I am, and more minded to handle details, so he gave my little nation a lot more firepower to play with. He also gave me some confidence in starting a war, since I am too much of a pacifist... (That Arcoscephale attacking a certain Marignon might have something to do with it) I can't say for sure how much Jurri helped me, of course, but I do know his contribution wasn't negligible.
I will retire from Dominions as soon as possible, but I won't quit my current games, unless the game itself stops, or someone else steps in and the other players are fine with it. So if Ulm and Vanheim wish to call this game a draw, I'm fine with it, and I'll go on if they want to duke it out.

What about Man?
I've contributed to the downfall of two nations, with possibly a third one on the way...

Yeah, you sure did. It was an immense show of lasting power. I thought you were dead at least 30 turns ago. I am amazed at your resilience.
Which one do you mean is the third one you helped finish off? I am still trying to finish off the AI Mictlan and Jontun, for they are proving tough at the end.

Now that I've run my mouth about staying around, most likely someone will come and finish me off. Arco already threated to do just that before his computer died. My turns are numbered...

Re: Song of the Blade - Open Slot
I have some good news... I know have access to a working connection at home.
I have more bad news: the computer having the connection cannot be used to ferry files around (no floppy disk, and my own computer cannot burn CDs), the connection cannot be shared (the local network is currently down, and we are on dial-up AOL), and the promised fix from our ISP has yet to come anywhere near us. Weeks is, of course, the expected delay, but still.
So I cannot really play for the time being, and I haven't heard from the other two players (Tauren and Blofeld) about how they feel with this game.

Re: Song of the Blade - Open Slot
I am now in the process of switching ISPs. ETC is in weeks, of course: two weeks if all go well, more otherwise (either way, not holding my breath).

Re: Song of the Blade - Open Slot
And the switch is already over. I'm amazed at how quickly our new ISP went: it took them no more than three days to send the new modem, resolve our previous glitch (that the previous ISP couldn't be arsed to solve), and set our DSL line. Well, that's a very good surprise.
