How to setup a multiplayer game correctly?
Me and my friend want to play SE4 in our small LAN (only 2 PCs).

What is the best way to setup those 2-Player games?

Everytime one of us finished his round the other has to load that file (turnbased).
That s ok.

But the thing that is boring: everytime we have to click "Load" - and then click much more to go to right path (SE4 doesn t remember the Last "load"-path.

Is it possible to let SE4 remember this path?

When I finished my round the file for my friend is saved on my PC - so he must click his way through all this folders over network to go to my ../savegame.
When he finished I have to the same thing to go to his ../savegame folder.

We can t use batch-files because the filename changes every round
(gamename_playernumber_round : TEST_1_00023).
My LAN helper should solve all of your problems. Look in my sig below for the link.

All you have to do, is have a network drive mapped, so you can get to the other player's savegame folder through a drive letter such as "S:".

Run my LAN helper, set the paths to your SE4.EXE, and to the other player's savegame folder.
Set your player number, and password if applicable.
The modpath must be exact, I would just use the path.txt, but it is up to you.

Just leave the program running, minimize it if you wish, and within 1000 milliseconds of the other player saving the game, the LAN helper will pop up a messagebox.

The messagebox will state the name of the new gamefile it has found, and ask if you wish to play it (yes/no).
If you press yes, then SE4 will load and drop you right into your turn.

ahhh, great. That's the thing I really need.

Thanks Suicide.

How about to contact Malfador to include this tool within the next patch for SE4?

Hi Suicide,

I ve got a little problem with your tool.
If I use it to start my round none of my ships has any movement points left.

They can t move any time. If I load the same turn without the tool - all is ok and the ships will move their path or have movement points left.

The game is turn based.

Any idea?

Woah! Running SE4 using commandline parameters screws up sequential movement!!!

This is a major bug in SE4 v1.41, and you should definitely Email Aaron about it, so it can be fixed for the next patch.

----------------------

For now:
-The LANHelper will still notify you when the turns become available
-The LANHelper can start SE4 for you, but you will have to re-load your savegame from within SE4.

You will initially see all your ships with no movement, but after you reload the same game from the SE4 menu, the movement will be restored.

I am afraid that there is nothing I can do about this. Obviously, the commandline stuff works properly during simultaneous movement, or PBW perople would have complained.
You are the first EVER player to load a sequential movement game using commandline parameters! Congratulations

Hopefully this can be resolved by the next patch, so send that Email!

Hm,

the same thing happens when I use DOS.

Even all newly built ships don t have any movement points left.

This problem occurs on both machines (LAN).
