Default Luck?

On a game against AI I picked 1 turmoil and 3 luck.

On a turn I was reading messages: Faithful people built a temple for me in province x.
There was no temple there...
So I read next message: An earthquake or something destroyed my temple in province x.(I wonder if those faithful lied me 2 times or I�m just unlucky because I never saw the damn temple)

Then, in a MP I chose luck 1. On a province inside my land were trolls, and after defeating them I found that population were Trolls and Vaettis (cool). Later I casted Achasic Record there...
Anybody guess wich site I found?

Yes!!! a troll cave!! just what I needed there!!
(I just wonder why those trolls living in the cave live there while they just could live on the open just like the ones available from population)

The events happen in the order listed in the message screen. Thus, your faithful servents built a temple. It existed in cyber space only until the earthquake immediately destroyed it.

In the base game (without mods), the turmoil/luck setting does not work very well at all. The bad events still happen with alarming regularity while the good events are not anywhere near on a par with the bad events. I mean, 5 air gems in a mirror is certainly not compensation for your arcane laboratory burning down and losing the 200 gold plus all the mages who cannot research or construct artifacts for a whole turn.

You are far better off going order + mistfortune. Avoid mistfortune 3, as there are some really, really bad events that can happen only at the level 3 setting. Losing half your popoulation in your capitol on Turn 2 is a real killer indeed.

Sometimes when I play SP with Ermor, I take Luck 3, and with Luck 3 I rarely ever get a bad event, and all of those are just because of the extreme death scales...
Usually its just gems, and quite often the 500-1500 gold events, though I do get a lot of "bad" milita events :\

You forgot to mention that some of the 'good' events are actually harmful. Like hordes of militia in some distant province that you will have to pay upkeep for.

Turmoil 1 and luck 3 in 10 provinces or more is almost certain that a good event is happening every turn. Sometimes I got 2 gem events the same turn. I got money and milittia too (this is not so harmul since the upkeep cost is small).
The best is the new gold or copper mines, the commanders joining, the 1500 gold, and the free buildings.
I don�t think luck is terribly necesary for competitive play but feels nice to be lucky.

Random magic items from luck can also be very helpful, especially when it's something powerful which you don't have a way to forge...

I'm playing turmoil 1 luck 3 right now. In 30 turns I had my lab destroyed by fire on 6th turn, unrest did increase a few times, vinemen captured one of my provinces, 'repairs costed us 100 gold' a few times, etc, etc.
Luck gave me 150 gold in two events, I've received many free gems and a stupid magical item (rat tail), some militia and flagellants joined me, a few times I had a 'crops a flourishing, but faith decreases' event, but money-wise it's absolutely terrible.

I still recall one absurd Mictlan game where I received two Great Treasures (3000 gp, lots of fire gems, ROBE OF THE ARHCMAGI, lycanthropos' amulet) on the turn I lost... I lost the game because I was few slaves short of an Arch Devil. I had given few slaves to be used in an already-lost battle few turns earlier...

I wonder what kind of scales money-events require. If many need luck and order/production/growth, you have to take more positive scales for a chance of extra money than to get the guaranteed extra income of Order.
