Default Is there any way to change the way spells are listed?

I really hate giving orders to my mages because I have to hunt around for the spells I want. It would be a lot easier if the spells were listed by main path required to cast.

1 fire
2 fire
3 fire
ect.
1 air
2 air
3 air
ect.

Is there some game command that I don't know about or is everybody in the same boat?

Everyone is in the same boat. This is one of the worst UI 'features' in the game. Not only do you have to scroll through many many spells to get to the ones you want, but the location of the spells in the list varies from game to game.

Even with the same nation and pretender, if you don't follow the exact same research sequence. Infuriating and time consuming.

If the spells -were- grouped as you suggest, or in any consistent manner, it'd be a lot easier. Even better would be a multi-column display, allowing you to see more spells at once without scrolling, or multi-panel.

Or even just putting a selection of the most recently selected spells in a non-scrolling section. That way, when you've selected 4 spells already and suddenly realize you needed a different spell, or a different order, you wouldn't have to go hunting for the ones you'd already just picked.

Yep, searching thru those spell lists is a *big* pain in the ***. Hint for developers: have all spells listed in some sensible order please.

Well, I think that what we need is a Spell Quickref sheet, listing spells by Path and path level reqs, maybe with a split between mono-path "pure" spells and multipath ones, for example
Pure Fire
Fire-1
Fire-2
...
Multipath Fire
Fire1 Air1
Fire1 Air2
...
It's not that difficult, but undoubtely time-consuming. If ever IW would be kind enough to "publish" the spell manual/descriptions in digital Version it'll be of great help .

A quick reference for spells would do nothing to help the issue of how hard it is to select spells within the game, which is what the comments here have been about.

The scrolling list of spells is a moderate inconvenience in any case, once a lot of spells have been researched. But the fact that the spells show up in different locations depending on the sequence magic was researched is ... maddening.

If the spells had a consistent sorting order, life would be much easier on the players, regardless of the sorting order : Primary sort key element, secondary key power, or primary sort key power, or primary sort key type of magic (thaumaturgy, enchantment, etc) - anything that would be consistent from game to game.

But it's not likely to improve any time soon, regardless of player frustration.

Me too! I agree that this is a major annoyance and adding any other kind of sorting prior to display should be manageable code-wise...

I've been thinking of making an excel sheet to refrence all the spells. I'd sort them on sheets by globals, battle field enchantment, summoning, etc. Then I'd list the gem cost, fatigue, school, magic paths needed, and a summary. It wouldn't help the annoying spell casting orders, but is anyone interested in it?
