1) in a couple of turns. You cannot appoint a new prophet right after the Last one died. Just wait.

2) only with a certain spell, never naturally (and only if he managed to get a heroic ability before dying.)

3) Yes.

1) you'll get a message telling you when you can appoint a new prophet. If I recall correctly, it is about 6 turns after the Last one died.

2) Nope - dead is dead. The description of the mummy-creating spell (Ritual of rebirth, I think) made me think it might 'resurrect' a dead hero of yours (hero meaning someone who was in the Hall of Fame) as a mummy, but I haven't tried it myself yet.

3) Some nations have more than one national hero. There is probably a list of the heros for each nation around, if you look at sites like Sunray_be's or Arryn's.

Edit: Dang, pipped to the post by a fish.

1. You have to wait for a certain number of turns. The manual states the number, but I cant recall it right now (I guess it was half a year, i.e. 4 turns).

2. ? (I doubt it, except for well-prepared necromancers, of course... )

3. Yes, but that depends on your nation. Most nations seem to have 2-3 national heros. (I'm not sure about the chances of national heroes to show up, but I vaguely recall that someone said that the chances are increasing each turn and are reset when one of the heroes appears.)

You can get every hero of your nation once, and only once. I think Man makes an exception as there are thirteen Knights of the Stone. but I have never had two at the same time. You cannot (or atleast shouldn't be able to) have more than one of each hero of your nation, but you can have all the different heroes your nation can get if you are lucky.

The chance of a national hero showing up in any turn is 3% + luck. So with a luck scale of -3 they will never show up and with luck 3 they have a 6% chance of showing up every turn.

The Ritual of Rebirth is the only reliable way to bring a hero back. If somebody's presence is still strong enough on this plane (i.e. they are still famous enough to be on the Hall of Fame) then the Death magic spell can bring them back as a mummy.

The mummy-Version is almost identical to the original. It has a few new advantages and a few new disadvantages, but is sometimes a bit more powerful. Just keep them away from open flame!

The only other way I can think of would be to use Wish, and I've never tried wishing for a specific hero. Wishing for a "Hero" in general gives you a random one, and it'll be a unit instead of a commander until you Gift of Reason it. Paying 100 Astral Pearls per try at the Big Slot Machine of Destiny seems ridiculous if your trying for a specific hero, and I'm not actually sure the game will allow redundant commanders through that approach.

Hmmm. How well does this spell work with Abysian heroes, then? Do they auto-ignite the first time they go into battle?

If you are going to wish, I would think you may as well wish for a vastness, Doom Horror or one of the SC pretenders. I recall a post here suggesting that you could use a wish to produce a clone of your Pretender, which would seem overpowered.

Of course if you could Wish for Cthuugul the Stargazer (or whatever his name is) that would be one way for nations other than R'lyeh to exploit the voidgate.

Default Qs about national heroes and prophets

My prophet dies Last turn. Dies does not really explain it. He was clobbered/decimated/destroyed! I was careless and lost him. He was also one of my national heroes.

1) When can I assign a new prophet?? The option is not currently there for other commanders(and the prophet is definitely dead!).

2) Do national heroes ever come back to lie or will I never see him again??

3) Can you have more than 1 national hero(and I don't mean duplicates)??

Thanks!

A mummified hero is no longer a whatever-he-was. He's replaced by a generic mummy instead, losing whatever innate abilities he had before, and gaining the abilities of a mummy instead. So an Abysian mummy would lose his heat aura and gain a disease aura, and become a fire-vulnerable mummy. Keep him from away from the other Abysians.

Well, his unit name is "Stargazer", so it might be possible to get a Stargazer unit. I've never wished for one, though. It's more direct to simply wish for "Vastness". That's what you really wanted, right?
