First thoughts and questions on Starfury
I post a fair ammount in the Space Empires IV section and I have a SEIV mod(which can be found in my siggy) so some of you might know me. I just got Starfury in the mail yesterday. I played the first campaign for a few hours. I have a few questions, comments, and concerns about the game.
Firstly, I have watched 5 or 6 ai ships slam right into planets. The ones I remember most were a Terran Carrier and a Terran Destroyer that were flying together. The carrier hit the planet first then the destroyer kept going and did a few more rounds on its WP path or whatever the ships use. Then it also hit the same planet. Is this a problem that anyone else has had? Also will it or can it be fixed in a future patch?
Secondly, When I minimize the game then restore it all of the menus are garbled. Is there something I can do to prevent this?
Thirdly, Is there a way to hail ships or bases to carry out an intelligent conversation instead of the mindless gibberish they put out over the open fequency?
Fourthly, Is there a way to intergrate the demo campaign into the full Version? I tried but when it gets to 90% when its loading the campaign it freezes.
Fifthly, Is it worth following the storyline or is it just there to keep you going in the right direction?
Sixthly, Is there some place that I can view the status diffect factions hold me at, like Moderate, Warm, Murderous?
Seventhly, Are there any mods that are a must have for a Starfury newbie? Also along with this is there a mod launching program for Starfury like there is for SEIV?

Re: First thoughts and questions on Starfury
If you have time compression turned on, the AI collision avoidence gets REALLY bad. Other than that they do ok, though I haven't found a method to reduce the collisions.
Try switching to safe mode on the menu issue.
Not currently, no. It isn't quite gibberish, though. Those Messages are trigged based on how that ship is doing and what its doing.
I'd think loading the demo would work fine..but if you patched you need to add the extra stuff from the patches first.
The storyline provides most of the direction for the game.
The Amonkrie, Pirates, and Xiati will always try to kill you, and the Neutrals, Abbidon and Terrans will always be your friends. That simple unfortunately. I'm working on modding this, but have hit a few snags; I have it set so if you kill two starbases the Terrans try to kill you, but after killing one SF races to the end of the event tree and they go after you.
EDIT: fixed that problem. Adding an extra event in the middle worked. Huh. Anyway, the races WILL shoot at you if you shoot at them, but if you stop shooting after a while they do too.
No must-have mods yet, I'd say, though SJ's P&N mod is interesting. No mod launching programs, since that's built into SF itself- all the mods are contained within different campaign folders.

Re: First thoughts and questions on Starfury
Well for example the latest one adds Beam Time to the components entry for each file. Look at history.txt..

Re: First thoughts and questions on Starfury
I've whipped up a small mod to add a basic faction system.
http://s94941683.Onlinehome.us/Campaign 1 - Homefront ROL.zip
The Terrans and Abbidon will now brand you as a criminal and shoot on sight if you kill enough of their ships. The infractions are broken up into Base, Heavy, Medium, and Light catagories, with the number allowed before you are outlawed going up each time. You kill ONE base and they'll be after you, but sats and fighters are much less stringent.

Re: First thoughts and questions on Starfury
I put together a Battlestar Galactica mod. It includes new models, textures, landscapes, and a new campaign. May require my landscape mod (12 MB) to function properly.
Battlestar Galactica Mod (11 MB)
REQUIRES STARFURY V1.08 OR BETTER!!!
If you have v 1.15 (which you should download now, dangit), you'll need the BSG V1.15 Patch:
Battlestar Galactica Mod Version 1.15 Patch
Music for the mod (broken up into three files for slightly less ugly download)- Not necessary, but adds to the mood.
Music 1 (17 MB)
Music 2 (30 MB)
Music 3 (20 MB)
Enjoy!

Re: First thoughts and questions on Starfury
New question, is there a way to use my joystick in Starfury?

Re: First thoughts and questions on Starfury
As far as I know, the joystick is not supported by Starfury at this time.
