Approaching Moscow Dec 41
Thought I'd throw together an early Christmas present for you all. Hope you enjoy.
Seventy years ago, by the first week of December the German advance towards Moscow had stalled and the Soviet counter attack began. Cold weather had become as much the enemy as the Soviet army, vehicle breakdowns were common and frostbite was rampant, especially among the infantry. Meanwhile, Soviet high command was recovering, albeit slowly, from the shock and fresh troops began arriving in the Moscow area.
This scenario is semi historical, the forces and larger battleground are historical but the scenario itself is fictional. It supposes that Guderian's 2nd Panzer Army continued to drive on Moscow past, or perhaps around, the city of Tula and ran smack into the leading elements of the Soviet counterattack.
I make no guarantee that this scenario is winnable, it pits a reinforced company sized armor heavy German force against a reinforced Soviet infantry battalion. Victory hex placement and terrain favor the Soviets. In the historical perspective, a draw in this scenario would be the best expected outcome for the German force.
Have fun and good luck!
