The ‘pounder’ or Pdr was just a reference to the projectile weight.

These are the main ones you should know:

Anti-tank/tank guns

2 Pdr (40mm) Early war (as good as many 4.7cm guns)

6 Pdr (57mm) Mid war (better than many 75mm guns)

17 Pdr (76.2mm) Late war (as good as German 88mm)

Light Artillery

25 Pdr (87.6mm) Throughout war (versatile field gun with HEAT AT ability)

Tips

The 2 Pdr and 6 Pdr don’t have very good HE capacity, but had good rates of fire, and excellent AP ability when they first come out. But towards the end of their ‘shelf life’ they have trouble with German armour.

The usefulness of these guns can be extended by purchasing units with sabot rounds, or longer barrels, when they become available.

The 25 Pdr is a decent piece of kit. Good for indirect or direct fire, and can be used in an AT role until the 6 Pdr becomes available. Then use it as field artillery with secondary AT role if needed.

Hope this helps,
Cross
