Points points points, money money money

A few questions.
1)If during a campaign, after a battle, you have points remaining, do they accumulate with the points available after the next battle is over?
2)If I choose a number of points, say 10000, and leave the AI at XXXX (default), the AI gets 10000, right?
3)The Difficulty level changes what exactly?
