Battlefield Grid and Positioning Troops

If I put a troop as far right as possible (in other words, to the very front of my lines), and my opponent does the same, how many grid squares will separate us? Thanks.

P.S. just to show I am also a giver of knowlege, in addition to a leech

, I just calculated that there are 17 grid squares from front to back within your own side. So a mage at the farthest back of your lines would need a range 20 spell to effect one of his own troops at the very front line.
