Why there are no indie video games. Saw this article on a rather familiar topic at Shrapnel, thought it might be interesting for everyone. It also makes me wonder what the development and marketing costs for some of Shrapnel's games are like. I would guess it is nowhere near the $8 million that the article talks about for mainstream titles, especially since I remember an announcement a few years back that SE:IV had reached $1 million in sales and was Shrapnel's biggest success as far as sales/revenue.
I think we can all attest that the article title is a bit misleading. It's not that there are no indie video games, it is just hard to hear about them. Advertising ain't cheap. A lot of independant developers have been going under, but there have also been several that are rising up with new games and ideas.
Anyway... thoughts?
