Undead Mages?

Do the Undead, Ashen/Soulgate have any mages i am not aware of? It seems that all their ritual based units are priests, which would make it redundant to have schools of magic other than death except of course for your pretender who sees little action on the front lines. A mage would have access to all researched spells so short of using a combat pretender is there another solution? Thanks in advance for any information .
