Cheat code entry

Somehow, several times now I have gotten the game into "Cheat code:" mode.

How do you get out of this?

How did I get into it?

It is a pain. Mouse clicks are accepted, but all keyboard entry is eaten by the cheat code edit line. Had to crash my ship into a planet to get out of it.
