The Nerdons started in a sector Rich in lovely gas planets, along with a competor (Serengetti). Only one warp point lead out of this sector and it was of the ship damaging type.
First of all I colonized all the planets I could. One planet I colonized had artifacts that gave me Ice planet colonization (a VERY sweet gift for early in the game).
I then (under the veil of peace) sent over 9 missle boats to the Serengetti homeworld and then blew it up after a pretty tough fight. I then proceeded to wipe out all remanants of his empire.
Now I had like 10 planets in one sector and wanted to see what's behind that lone warp point. I sent the remainder of my fleet through it and....
::BLAM:: when they say damaging, they mean DAMAGING! Most of my ships lost all their components but 2-3.
What was on the other side you ask? A damn black hole so my whole fleet got sucked into it and perished.
So I'm pretty screwed until I can get decent shield technology (I assume it will help me get through the warp point unscathed.)
At least I have a lot of planets and a very tough natural defense.
