Expanding core in campaign question

I searched for this and didn't find an answer. If I expand the core size via adding troops with my bonus points, will the computer field a correspondingly larger force? Or are my victory points an edge over the computer in subsequent campaign battles? I'm curious, because I really prefer to fight smaller engagements of roughly 500 points. If I add another tank company and infantry company after a decisive victory with (let's say) 500 extra points by expanding my core, am I going to face another 500 (more or less depending on mission type) points of enemy troops?
