Bugs and noob questions

Hi, just recently bought the game, and I have already come across a couple of issues.

Firstly, the name of your home planet is Glory right? Because I have played several missions where it referred to it as Hope, and I think I came across it several times on the highscores.

Second, I have a machine, which although it fits within the spec's, runs slower than molasses, making the game completely unplayable .

Ok, now, questions.
Firstly, is there any game guides or anything which tells me what various items do? specifically the special items, like the wish giving one, or the one that when used puts my ship to sleep.
