Possible to change unit and ship limits in game?

I have been playing a single player game with a large galaxy for a long time now and I just realized that I forgot to up the max units in space and max ship limits when I created the game, and I already hit the 1000 space units limit just by mining all the warp points on the borders of my measly 12 system empire. Is there any way to change these limits once the game is already going?
