Default Dom I PBEM question

Ok, I have a newbie-ish Dom I question that I'm hoping one of our resident veterans can answer for me. I'm setting up my first PBEM game, and the manual isn't exactly crystal clear on the procedure (this can double as a suggestion for the DOM II manual as well, if it's not written yet... ).

It's a one-on-one game, with the other player playing Man. I've already received his newlords file, and put it in the appropriate folder, and I'm assuming that I just set up the game as usual, play out my first turn and then quit to send out the files (or perhaps I send the files before I play my first turn, after the game is set up?).

My question is: exactly which file(s) do I need to send and receive? Do I send the entire saved game folder, or just send him the man.trn file, or do I need to send my own .trn file as well? What about the ftherlnd file... do I need to worry about this at all? When he finishes his turn, does he send back .trn files, or just his man.2h file?

Thanks in advance for the answer to this somewhat off-topic question...
