Default Re: Forum Addiction (U Know You\'re Addicted When...)

Ugh, but browsing in word? *sick face* no, no, no bad! and pages don't display correctluy, and . . . bad!

alt-F4 is faster than alt-tab sometimes, with way too many windows open, alt-tab can take a second to rearrange things. this is especially true of games that alter screen resolution. alt-f4 sometimes leaves your screen in the wrong resolution, but it does kill programs, dead, and fast (useful if the boss knows to look at the task bar and gets suspicipious if it is minimized off the screen . . . )

Also, check out www.sysinternals.com
Process Explorerer is basically an enhanced task manager, only it does a better job of killing programs, can kill an IE window and ALL of its decendants cleanly (popup recursion anyone?), always gets all the memory back (in this respect it is better than the Win 95/98 taskman, which sometimes lost memory when it force closed a program), and it lets you browse all file handles and active DLLs, and even kill them individually without dirupting the program! (provided it can handle the loss) For example, you have a P2P program, you've got a great connection to one file you want, and you want to remove one completed file from your shared dir. but horror of horrors, people are d/ling that file, and you can't move it while its being accessed! even if you aren't able to block them, you can use Process explorer to kill the file handle, then snatch the file, and poof, clean extraction, and the client keeps running as happily as ever!

Also good for catching spyware, and since it is ~120k, it fits on a disk and doesn't require an install . . . so it can be imported to almost any system and run from the disk. Poof, you have access to program manager capability, whether you have those privileges on the system or not !
(it also lets you see processes that the program manager hides from you, although it has no service viewer)

Also, they make internet monitors and registry monitors, good for catching spyware, employee-monitoring-ware, etc.

All of them are free too. Download them toady! They sell professional Versions with some sort of improvements, but I've never really found the free Versions to be lacking in any way . . . try em out!

No, i was not paid for this review . . . if only . . . *sigh* . . . anyway, they probably wouldn't want to advertize their features quite this way . . .
