New PBW game - Strange Races
I have created a new PBW game I was hoping a few of you might be interested in. The game details are as follows;
Strange Races
For many generations, your scientists have been studying the stars. It was only 100 years ago that they discovered there were other planetary systems within your galaxy. They have yet to be able to explain the limits of your galaxy, much is still unknown. Talk and rumors of alien life out there has been running rampant within your populace. Most of your population is anxious, although some are wary, as the day of your first intergalactic colony ship deployment draws near and your scientists promise even more advances as the years go by. Will you find extraterrestrial existence? If you do, will they be friendly? Will you be able to establish a mutually beneficial alliance or bring war upon your people? The answers can only be found in the stars so lead your race into the future!
Starting resources: 20000
Starting planets: 3
Home planet value: Good
Score display: Own
Technology level: Low
Racial points: 5000
Quadrant type: FQM Dense Mid-Life
Quadrant size: Medium
Event frequency: Medium
Event severity: Medium
Technology cost: Medium
Victory conditions: Last Man/ Last Alliance
Maximum units: 5000
Maximum ships: 2000
Computer players: None
Computer difficulty: N/A
Computer player bonus: N/A
Neutral empires: No
Other game settings:
- Custom/Non-Familiar shipsets Only (want the galaxy filled with Strange Races)
- No Ruins
- No Stellar Manipulation
- Must take at least 1 Advanced Racial Trait (ie, Religious, Temporal, Organic, Psychic, Crystalline)
- No Ancient Race trait
Game information
Owner: Gandalph
Turn duration: 36 hours
Turn automation: Fully automatic turns (key)
SE4 Version: v1.78 + TDB Fix Mod + No Ai Mod
To further explain C above, no stock shipsets, and by no familiar I mean no Star Trek or Star Wars or B5. I am looking for a galaxy of TOTALLY ALIEN (alien as in to mankind, not alien to the game)races.

Re: New PBW game - Strange Races
So, does this mean you have to make a race orginal to this game, or could someone use the Rage or the Aquileans another race like that?

Re: New PBW game - Strange Races
Using Custom races is highly encouraged, I just didn't want to see any of the "sci-fi series" type races that really should be played in their own galaxy and time frame. The Rage and the Aquilean are both alien enough for my taste.

Gandalph if you run a game as good as you play it should be really good.

Can the empire be one of the original game races?

I was hoping to avoid the stock races, but any except the Terrans should be alien enough.

Re: New PBW game - Strange Races
There are almost 300 shipsets available in the PBW file library. True a bunch of those are duplicates, and a bunch are if not outright duplicates at least very derivative, and a bunch are from various Sci-fi universes so may not be very original, and quite frankly a bunch are probably just crap. But after all that there are quite a few good quality original races to choose from. You wouldn't even have to make your own.

Re: New PBW game - Strange Races
I do have a very original race pic and empire file already. I only have a partial shipset, perhaps I'll borrow one and modify it.

Re: New PBW game - Strange Races
A significant fraction of the shipsets in the PBW File Library were made before SE IV Gold came out, also, which means their AIs will be incompatible.

Re: New PBW game - Strange Races
True, but AI's are easily updated, and aren't really needed for PBW games anyway. You can get by with just the pics, unless you plan on playing solo games or running turns offline on your machine. In fact with no AI files at all I think the game will just revert to the defeault AI files in the AI folder.
