Now it makes sense...

How about turning this into an email newsletter?

Your welcome. You don't have to make it smaller just because I said it was big. Nothing wrong with it being big. I was just stating the obvious...

mlmbd Engineers have girlfriends??

Well, my dad is married, and he is an engineer... So I guess he had a girlfriend while he was an engineer...... Well wait a minute... he's only worked at that place for 17 years.... and my parents have been married 20... So I guess you got a good question....

Lots or trouble. Would need a Users list w/email addresses. If it is just internal, an effective and efficient way to send it in PM's. For now I think it is just better the way it is. But Heh, THANKS for the idea!

rags, believe me I never want to make it SMALLER!!

For those with some sort of Engineering background. You might find this humorous!

You Might be an Engineer If...

Buying flowers for your girlfriend or spending the money to upgrade your RAM is a moral dilemma. OR

You are at an air show and know how fast the skydivers are falling. OR

You see a good design and still have to change it.
AND LASTLY

The salespeople at Radio Shack can't answer any of your questions.

It's not so difficult to decide whether to buy flowers or RAM.
If you have a girlfriend, always buy the flowers, unless it's your NOTEBOOK computer we're talking about.

It's very difficult to calculate how fast the skydivers are falling, because skydivers have an irregular shape, and therefore the math for the air resistance is complex. The calculation is easier if we are considering falling spheres, but it is still not that simple. It would probably be easier to empirically determine a skydiver's speed of descent by observing many skydivers and measuring their speeds. Once you have some statistics on the speeds, you will know the ballpark figure. If you know the distance from yourself to the skydiver and you have a stopwatch, you can roughly calculate the speed by seeing how far they go down in a period of time.

A good design is not necessarily the BEST design. It is very possible that the design may be further improved to increase performance, improve efficiency, or reduce the cost of manufacture, or to make it easier to service, etc.

The sales people at Radio Shack don't know what a zener diode is. They don't know the difference between a PNP and NPN transistor and can't help you select the best transistor for your application. They think that a transformer is a toy robot that turns into a car. Well, I'm sure not ALL the sales people, there, just some of them.

Kamog, I guess we're both engineers then.

The optimist thinks the cup is half full; the pessimist thinks the cup is half empty; the engineer thinks they could have designed a smaller cup.

I never bought my girlfriend flowers, I gave her books or CD's (must have worked because we're married now).

Why of course they to. And a FEW, even manage to keep one long enough to get kissed. And after the kiss, an even SMALLER manage to keep a girlfriend long enough to have sex. Assuming the sex is EXCEPTIONAL! And after that, an even SMALLER manage to keep their girlfriends long enough to get married. Of course that number gets reduced buy about 50%, due to divorce. So, RAGS is sole survivor. All the other ENGINEERS have reentered the dating force!
Hope that clears that up!

Kamog, I rest my case!!

You Might be an Engineer If...

You spent more on your calculator than you did on your wedding ring.

OR,
You Might be an Engineer If...
You've ever tried to repair a $5 radio.

ALL engineers DO have girlfriends, if you count the imaginary girlfriends.

Well, why should someone spend a lot of money on a piece of jewelry that has no practical use? A wedding ring is a piece of metal with (usually) a polished stone attached to it. Does it really make a difference whether you spend $200 or $2000 or $20,000 on it? Given that the different priced rings have exactly the same functionality, it is logical to choose the most cost-efficient one. You can't go too cheap, however, because this is an emotional thing.

A calculator, on the other hand, does have more functionality when you buy an expensive one. The Hewlett Packard HP48GX is a very nice graphing programmable calculator with expandable memory.

By the way, Reverse Polish Notation (RPN) calculators are the best! RPN is more convenient because intermediate values are placed on the stack and can be viewed and manipulated.
Instead of entering this:
5 x (10 - 8 ) + 6 / 14 =
You do this:
5 enter 10 enter 8 - x 6 enter 14 / +
The only problem with RPN calculators is that when people borrow it, they spend 5 minutes looking for the = sign and then they complain that they can't use it. (And they're not interested in listening when you try to teach them how RPN works!)

And repairing a $5 radio, why not? It doesn't really matter how much the radio cost, you just open it up and try to fix it - just for fun!

Edit: I put "Enter" inside < > and it just gave me a blank space!
