Default MOBHack question

In MOBHACK in the bar below the File and Help line there is the Features button to do the things in MOBHACK, on the far side of that there is a button that say you can Search and Replace a word/names.

It doesn't work, or it doesn't do anything. I checked the help file it tells me to type in the name I want to replace with what I want but when I got to it and type say Team to Section for example, nothing happens.

Window opens it says Search and Replace and has two section for Replace (Area to type word)
With (Area to type word)

The OK and Cancel boxes to the right of that and below all of that is (Case Insensitive).

Now the Help File shows a check box in place of that but no check box is to be found.

Not sure which or what is right, so I am asking.

Well - there's something I havent used in over a decade or more - in fact I had completely forgotten that there was such a function!

Which shows how much use it gets.

Each name is of course a string, so to replace all "Squad" with "Section" - check the sub-string checkbox since in "Rifle Squad" Squad is but a portion of the name string.

Otherwise it will be looking for complete strings of "Squad" - of which there won't be many...

Exclamation Re: MOBHack question

The function was useful during early OOB creation and would be again if someone decided they wanted to convert the Hungarian OOB unit names (for example ) to English

It works exactly as it was designed to BUT.....there are slight differences between the WW2 MOBHack which does have the sub-screen check box and the MBT MOBHack which does not. You have to change the entire name in MBT whereas WW2 will allow you to change part of it.

In the WW2 Hungarian example, you could change all "Lovasz Raj" to "Rifle Raj" by using the substrings control to change Lovasz to Rifle but in MBT it would have to be a full Lovasz Raj => Rifle Raj and IIRC the substring control was left out of MBT because it wasn't really being used in WW2

But if you wanted to rename all units named Rifle Squad in an MBT OOB to Rifle Section it will do it but it has to be the full name to the full name.... no partials in MBT.

That section of the MBT MOBHack Help file is a copy of the WW2 because, as Andy said, it's been so long since we used it we forgot they were different.

That said, it's nice to know somebody reads the help files and I will be correcting the MBT version of that section to reflect it's reality

I think I've used it once or twice, but not in at least five years.

It's only something that even when maintaining 129 OOBs it gets used very, very rarely but it's really handy on the rare occasion when it is needed. I think the last time I used it was when the Formation names were changed in the WW2 Hungarian OOB and that was about a dozen years ago

I am trying to use it to give the NON-English countries their correct names for things as much as the game allows with the space limits and such.
