Default Weapon stat difference US v USMC

I've been playing Duff's Mekong Delta campaign and I noticed that the USMC UH-1E+ Iroquois has two weapons called '7.62mm M134 Gat.' However, the US AH-1G SMASH has a weapon called '7.62 Minigun.' I assumed the difference was just in the nomenclature, but on closer inspection I noticed that the stats are different too. The USMC version has a accuracy of 39 and a HE kill of 12, where as the US version has an accuracy of 24 and a HE kill of 16. Also, it seems the USMC version produces the correct whirling Gatling gun sound, the US version simply makes the standard light machine gun sound effect.

Being that the USMC version makes the correct sound effect, I assume that is the 'correct' version, but I may be wrong. Does anyone know which version has the intended stats? Do the differences in accuracy and HE kill offset each other?

This is true. However, I am pretty sure that the U.S. only made one variety of 7.62mm rotary barreled machine gun during the Vietnam era. Namely the M134.

Check also if one is in a proper fully powered and slewed chin turret (eg on an AH-1) and the other is a wobbly flexible door type mounting. The original designer may have decided the 2 different mounts merited different stats.

Try this ref. also seems only difference in terms generally is related to it's caliber and overall size but technically operate in the same manner. Here's a good weapons site and it addresses the issue at hand, at least I hope!?!

Thanks for looking into this, and for the quick reply. I thought the mounting configurations might the reason for the difference as well, but when I checked the OOBs both weapons are universal for all the helicopter mounted 7.62 rotary barreled weapons. Both occupied weapon slot 192 are used on many different helicopter configurations, i.e. wing mounted gun pods, door guns, and turrets.

DRG will become famous soon enough
Default Re: Weapon stat difference US v USMC

The short answer is, this was changed last release and I would have to dig out last years notes to figure out why so I will put this on the list to re-check again this year and *IF* the change to the weapon is justified then I will change the rest to match That unit gives the correct sound because it's been given the "correct" sound number and once I sort this out the other versions will get that

However, preliminary investigation seems to indicate the USMC version is incorrect. To get an accuracy number that high on a gun that's 7.62 mm the barrel would have to be 1200 mm long and they are not even half that long.

This will be sorted out for next release, The USMC HEK is correct but the accuracy should be 18

CORRECTION. I forgot what I wrote 5 years ago

9) Multibarrelled type weapons like Gatlings or GSh-30-6 have been given a +6 point increase in their existing accuracy for their high ROF. This change allows us to better model the effects of these weapons that is fair when used in both aircraft and helicopters

so the correct accuracy is 24 ( unless I revise the formula again..........)
