Default TI in the IDF

Hello all,

After some time away from the game and boards, I started playing again in last week and also looking around on the boards. I also looked at all my older threads and posts.

As some may recall, I asked for TI for the Merk 2b some time ago, and indeed the current version of the game has Merk 2b with TI from 1988...

Today I was suddenly curious about the TI for older IDF tanks, mainly the Shot(Centurion). Noticed that in the game, no shot is available with TI. Decided to look into it as I remembered stories about TI used by Shots in Lebanon during the 1980s.

Well, I found almost nothing. But only ALMOST. this thread from an israeli military forum includes a discussion of the TI on centurions, and the participants are mostly ex-idf tankers. Still sketchy info but safe to say that at least some Shot Kal Dalet(Brak-Or) tanks had TI as early as 1986...

Not sure if this justifies upping vision on Shots to 40 or not...

Also just noticed...I am trying to design an Israel-Syria scenario and some issues with Israeli tanks:

*Merkava Mk 2B not available as MBT from 2002 onwards only as obsolete tank, and therefore regular tank units with Merk 2B unavailable...Inaccurate, AFAIK to present time 2B remains in regular as well as reserve service. With current budget cuts I hardly see them replaced in the next 2 years.

*Merkava MK 1 not available in reserve units from 2005. Inaccurate, some reserve units still operate them. They may be taken out of service in the next 2-3 years, but at the current time they are in reserve. In this case some were fitted with TI(!).

*Some issues with Magach tanks...Honestly I have no idea whats going on there. The only thing I do know is what it should be like with the later Magach variants:
*Magach 7 should be available in regular formations untill 2003. In reserve formations I am not sure, but I think should be available to this day.

*Magach 6B Gal(not Magach Gal as in game)/Batash- should be available for regular formations until 2004. Should be available for reserve units until current time at least.

Yeah I know small issues but just saying.

I've put this on the list to review in the fall so if I do end up with any questions it will be at least a couple more months before I even start thinking about OOB work.

Remember a lot of this info came from a time when there was a lot less info available

That said you are going to have to a lot clearer about "Some issues with Magach tanks...Honestly I have no idea whats going on there" becasue from my POV your issues extend to slight date changes.

As for the Sh'ot's............ I think "Sh'ot Kal Dalet" with TI covering the ammo / gun upgrades in 86 then 92 ought to cover that.

Thanks for your reply Don.As for Magachs- that * was redundant. Those two small date problems are what I saw, for now nothing more. Honestly I should go over the whole IDF OOB and find all problems, I am sure there are alot of date issues and small things like that, because as you say data is not easily attainable, certainly not in English.

Would it be better if I opened a thread and posted as I go, or should I find all the things that are off and make one long list? Also is there a format that I should do it in?

I have made a note for the Magachs dates.

If you do see anything that jumps out as being wrong let us know and I will be happy to note it down for investigation /correction. Moderate sized posts are better than 100 little ones or one mega post
