Re: Newbie Looking for Game any era
Look around for Newbie games which start up or recruit all the time. You don't ask for game hosts to recruit you (that's kind of pretentious, methinks), you sign up for the games that are/will be hosted. IF you can't find one, create one yourself.
That being said, we need a temporary sub for Midgard in BSoD for a few days (check here for details).

Thanks for the tips. Not sure why asking to play a game is pretentious especially noting there are no newbie games starting right now, further im not sure why it bothers you.
Good Chat.

I apologize if that came off annoyed. However, it sounded like you were asking people to specifically recruit you for games, and it's an inefficient process if that were the case for everyone.
If there aren't any games, I suggest you start one. It's pretty simple (just create a thread, choose and specify the settings [from number of players, mod, map, and any special changes to the default settings [like HoF, number of magic sites, etc.], and the server you'll use to host). Most games on this forum use llamaserver, so you can look up how to start up a game that way (fairly simple).
If you still want a game and don't want to host it, I'm considering hosting another one (although managing turns for 4 MP games at a time is probably a terrible idea).

Re: Newbie Looking for Game any era
No worries at all . I am thinking about starting a game, the problem is that I am a complete newb and whilst the mechanics of actually running the game im sure are not that difficult - its the nuances ie what races are balanced, what are the exploits, how to guard against cheating ect that I am not comfortable with!
If you do end up starting another game i'll be more than happy to join up ..

Re: Newbie Looking for Game any era
I wouldn't worry about races being imbalanced at all. The main concern of a host is whether or not to allow LA Ermor or Rlyeh (due to their dom-killing dominions) if you're playing LA (I allow it in my games, but others may feel differently in a newbie game). As for cheating and exploits, again I wouldn't worry about it. The game is rather (over)zealous as is about cheating, and there are only a few real cheese to worry about, like exploiting 0 gold Ettins (from the City of Shamblers site), and the really cheesy trick of sending 50 items to a person who just put up forge of the ancients, etc.
Again, hosting is relatively straightforward. The main thing is to watch for stales and make extensions when needed, and to lengthen turns when the game transitions into the mid and late games (generally goes from 24 hrs to 48 hrs, 72 hrs if turns take really long). Also, find subs when people need them.

Angry: CHeck out the For better or Worse thread. Its a team game. Its not exclusively newbie, but there are newbs in it. There is one more chap looking for a partner if you'd like to join in. At that point we'll be ready to start!
