Guided weapons on level bombers...
Hi!
I wondered a wee bit about this... Is it at all possible to equip, say, a JDAM to a B2 level bomber or does it mess up the entire system? As far as I can see, the only JDAM-equipped B2 is considered to be a fighter-bomber and, in today's warfare, guided weapons are, of course, fired from high altitude as well.

Re: Guided weapons on level bombers...
Nope
Level bombers are provided to offload dumb ordnance only.
PGM are a weapon system for fighters, bombers that utilise PGM are classed as fighters - see unit #355 in the USA OOB.

Re: Guided weapons on level bombers...
On a similar note, is there any reason why a level bomber class unit would have trouble with cluster munitions? Is there any reason why they would not drop them? I'm away from my personal computer to provide the specifics, but one of my modded aircraft units fits this description and will not drop its bombs.
I will edit in the specifics of the unit and weapon later when I return home and have access, since both were created by me. I can also attach a saved game to demonstrate the function (or lack thereof). I'm just curious if there are any known issues that might not be in the MOBHack help.
EDIT-
So the unit is classed as a COIN Bomber (Class 253). It has speed 4 and no other stats beyond crew and size. Its got a front armor rating of 6 and an ROF of 9. Survivability is 4. All slots are filled with the weapon I created (stats to follow), with 3 rounds each in the HE slot.
The weapon is classed as Aircraft Cluster Bomb, MLRS (Class 14), and has the following stats:
Acc: 1
WepS: 1
WarS: 1
HEPen: 5
HEK: 120
WepRange: 1
All other stats are 0.
Is there any reason that shouldn't function? I can test again and then attach a saved game if that would help.

Re: Guided weapons on level bombers...
I believe B-1 and A-6 do carry cluster munitions as level bombers and haven't encountered problems...

Re: Guided weapons on level bombers...
I think (and I stress the word think) I recall having a similar problem with bombers and cluster munitions.
I seem to recall solving it by having a dumb bomb in the first weapon slot. For some reason the bombers would not drop their load if the first slot wasn't a dumb bomb, but slots 2-4 could be about anything.

Re: Guided weapons on level bombers...
Re. guided weapons and bombers, bear in mind that any class-44 (or 223 I guess) aircraft carrying class-11 weapons with range over 200 (offmap standoff attack) will release them from the edge of the map, generally without coming within the envelope of low-level AAD.
If said aircraft carries only standoff weapons (qv the B-2 #355 Don mentioned), it has no reason coming on-map and strafing things at low altitude, so its actual flying altitude won't ever be an issue.
Mind you, these B-2s have been seen to strafe with no weapons left, but hey, that's the IA...
