Pretender-Specific Holy Magic for Priests.
There, maybe that will be better?
I'd just like to suggest giving individual Pretender chassis-either all of them or specific ones-their own personal Holy magic spells that they grant to their priests, in addition to the standards.
I'm not sure how this would work, and it would definitely take some hardcoding and balancing to implement, but it could make chosing a Pretender a whole lot more interesting, especially when it comes to the more unusual Titans, who currently probably don't get picked nearly as much as they should.
I realize also that it could have severe effects on a nation's balancing, but then so do Bless strategies. I can't see why this would be too much different, making priests for a Nation more versatile and powerful, as opposed to making just the sacred units.
Especially when you consider that points spent on a Pretender to get that Pretender's specific spell(s) could have been used to get a higher Bless instead, which would have also affected the priests, as well as the basic sacred units.

Re: Holy magic for Pretenders
The nice thing about it is that it would allow you to add a Pretender to the game that would significantly alter a nation's strategies, without having to mod the whole nation, itself.

Re: Holy magic for Pretenders
It would also increase the focus on the religion aspect of the game, so a warrior religion worshipping a mighty hero of old (the Allfather, maybe), would function differently than the cult of the sun god. These layers of variety, on top of the already existent nations and pretenders, provide for even more strategy/replayability.
Plus, I'd love some of the titans to be usefull.

Re: Holy magic for Pretenders
Its quite counterintuitive though.
Holy magic is power derived from the Pretender. The Pretender doesn't get it because his 'god' status is derived from his worshippers. Its a mutual relationship that can't be altered.
It does open up some game mechanics, but very unthematic.

Exactly. The preists get special holy spells because of which pretender chassis you choose.

Re: Holy magic for Pretenders
But we already have something of the sort, certain nations getting special undead holy spells irregardless of their pretender choice. Shouldn't it be an undead god that gives the ability to cast sepulcher, etc
Honeybadger, are you asking for pretenders to get ranks in holy magic and the ability to cast holy spells?
or (and I'm assuming this is it)
There are already nation specific spells, why not pretender specific spells - with holy being the easiest implementation.
Similarly, nation + pretender specific spells. For instance, I'm playing EA TC I get chastisement (3S), if I choose the god of war pretender I'll get chastisement + god of war specific spells (ex. heroism +15hp).
If I'm playing LA Ermor I may get sepulchre, and if I choose god of war I get sepulchre and "heroism"
Holy seems to make the most sense, but it wouldn't have to be limited to that.

Re: Holy magic for Pretenders
You are correct in you assumption, jutetrea. The title is somewhat misleading, but HB mentioned it earlier in another thread.

Yeah the title is pretty misleading.

Re: Holy magic for Pretenders
Is it a mod command that allows a spell to be designated for a certain nation? Could a similar mod command (in a patch) allow pretender spell designation or is there currently no check for pretender chassis available?

Why would ever write a reply without reading what you are replying? Once you read the thread it does not matter what the title says.
