Default More planet sizes

Am i the only one who thinks theres just too few planet sizes? I think that Tiny,Small,Medium,Large and huge just aren't enough.. I thought up a mod that i know would be possible. make about 50 planet sizes going from
Planet Size 1, Planet Size 2, etc. Then stellar types could be used just as a vauge description. so planets listed as "tiny" could have variences. one would be planet size 1 with a max pop capcity of 500m /w 5 falcities (curent std). While another might still say "tiny" but have a max pop of 750m adn 6 factilities. This would make it so there is some luck factor when it comes to colonization and well as some added realism, beacuse not all planets fall into such restrictive catagorys. I think this mod would be a pretty good idea and i might do it, if not for laziness, beacuse quite frankly a mod of that size would be huge having to go in and redo both planetsizes.txt and secttype.txt Does anyone else agree with me that this might be a good idea.

I would love to have more planet sizes, but when I tried long ago to make "micro" planets (tiny moons, 1 facility slot if breathable, 0 otherwise), mainly for use as the 16th moon of a gas giant type thing.
I got some odd errors, with some funky "null-planets" appearing.

I just tried it. It works to a degree, however i was mistaken. the "Stellar Size" is not what appears in the planet name box it is the acutal Planet Size name. Althought this does not make it Imposssible to do the mod it makes it a alot harder. Beacuse now you would haev to make the planet name.

Tiny(Tons of spaces)type2. Beacuse after a certian amout of charaters the name gets cut off. that way it would still look like plain "Tiny" but they would be slighty different. Mabey i will make this mod.

Is anybody intrested in something like this? If so ill make it. But if not im to lazy just to make for myself.

So please people tell me would you like this mod, ia m thinking about 50 different planet sizes 10 variences for each current type. In other words 10 different "tinys" 10 different "smalls" etc.

Throw in some micro-style moons, generate a map with them, and check the galaxy for null planets.
There should be at least 10 per large galaxy. (Use ancient race, and scroll down the list of planets)

You won't get any overt error Messages, and those null-planets are invisible. (null picture)

What does the "null-planet" do? I'm assuming that you cannot colonize it at all, but I could be wrong.

If it is just not colonizable, perhaps that is not so bad an error... but if it causes crashes when people try to colonize, then that would be a problem.

I know this is a long shot (without hard code changes) but could we change the error message from "null-planet" to "molten planet - uncolonizable" or some such thing?

No, a typical null planet will appear in a star system, invisible to the eye, but selectable if you click the right sector.

IIRC,
Where a normal planet has:
Ice - Hydrogen
Size - Medium
Conditions - Mild
Value 25%/70%/1%

The null planet has:
-
Size -
Conditions -
Value 25%/70%/1%

They are usually quite rare, hence the need for the ancient race trait.

Me.
I've already made some changes to the file in my mod, but it wouldn't be too hard to merge more changes in.

My only concern is whether it works, despite the crazy null-planets problem I had when I tried to do it myself.

I made a simple mod for Moons. Based on our solar system, most planets have moons of various sizes.

I put all the known moons in our solar system into various catagories. Made three differents sizes for Tiny and then used small and medium size plantets for moons. In fact in some systems the only colonizable 'planets' could be the Gas Giants moons.

For the three sizes of tiny, I used the same bit map picture, but the tiny moons could be different sizes.

Mod was posted for 1.49. I was planing on updating it once the Gold Version is released.

SJ, Jsut out of curiosity about your Null planet problem. Were you specifiying the new planet sizes in your systemtypes.txt file?

Admiral had a planet size mod that had the same problems with null planets. We got it to work by removing any instance in the systemtypes file where it was specifying one of the new planet sizes. As long as we let it only use the new sizes for the "any size" planets it worked fine and we had no null planets. If you can confirm this it might be worth sending to malfador as a possible bug.
