Default Digital Download Version?

Is there one?

I really hate waiting for the box to show up.

The demo.
Im afraid that will be your option. However Im assured that games started with the demo can be completed with the full version. I havent tested that yet though

Dissapointing if true. I game like this would appear perfect for digital download. Not to mention alot of places anymore offer a digital download after you buy there boxed set.. That would be quite acceptable

As far as I know, none of them are sharing their code. There is no installable module or package for it the way there is for adding forums, or blogs, or even a shopping cart.

And the ones that are offering it are stillironing out some of the headaches with their various methods.

Like I said, no one is giving up the code. They would rather sell you the service. And if I remember right, even paradox doesnt tend to trust them with their really big cash cows.

I also wonder why there is no offer for a digital download version.

With most people having broadband now, and the greater amount of sales you can get, especially for small independent developers like illwinter..

The major reason for the success of Stardock's Galciv II was the availability of a digital download... having to wait for a shipping of a physical box is agonizing and some would be more likely to buy if there was a download version....

There was a whole other thread about this somewhere, complete with the Official Word - seek it out if you're interested.

Everything has its pros and cons. The possible impact of messing it up is tremendous. Possibly balancing the benefits, at least for now.

And not everyone is all that happy with StarDocks way of managing things. If every game site had their own stardock then I dont think people would be all that happy.

Bah, if I might add some thoughts here--D2D is horrid (imho). I snagged Temple of Elemental Evil with "hit points" from D2D and it's un-playable (can't loot bodies with DirectX 9.0c). Seems it won't work unless you patch with the most current patch....

....which Atari has on their site but is NOT compatible with D2D games (security thing with the way D2D is set up). I opened a D2D ticket on this to request support (and patch)--they sent an automated response back telling me to patch the game....

I pressed the issue and they closed the ticket saying to please down the patch when it's available. Well...the patch isn't out there on the D2D site and you can't get ToEE from D2D anymore either now....

I also saw some posts stating "Sword of the Stars" had this issue too--the D2D patch lagged badly behind the retail "boxed" versions out on the net. Give me a boxed set with printed manual any day!!!!

Ahem, sorry...I'll drop off my soap box and back to lurking--just saw D2D and starting having an eye twitch!
