Default OT: Psychological Query

No, it's not about me, coz that'd just frighten everyone. I'm working on a short story to help me round my block on Hell is for Heroes, and I've got a little question.
You know how if someone's been suffering a terrible ordeal (kidnapping & torture for example), and then they're rescued by someone, their so relieved that someone helped them that they feel like they're in love with their rescuer? Does anyone know the clinical psychological term for that?

Are you thinking of Stockholm Syndrome? But that isn't where they fall in love with their rescuer. That's when a kidnap victim starts to identify with their captor.

No, not thinking of Stockholm Syndrome, for the exact reason that it involves the victim falling in love with the wrong person. Almost like reverse Stockholm Syndrome, except not quite, since Stockholm Syndrome doesn't actually require a rescue.

Gratitude?

Seriously it's probably just lumped in with Post Traumatic Stress. It's such a catchall phrase it's perfect. You could try ASR (Acute Stress Response) for variety.

That's the problem, everyone love acronyms and diseases don't get the long names they once did. Whatever happened to Flesh Eating Necrosis? I'll tell you the name was too long! So it was replaced with Ebola Zaire. Again too long so we then had SARS as the disease that would kill us all. Notice that when discussing the bird flu, which will kill all mankind tomorrow if not sooner, people keep calling HN-71 or whatever.

It's a damning indictement of modern media, love of acronyms, short attention spans and...

I was typing about something. What was it?

Nectrotizing Fasciitis!
Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy!

But seriously, I think it is Stockholm Syndrome that you're thinking of, just warped a little bit Call it Displaced Stockholm Syndrome.
