Best defense against pyschic converter?
It probably has been covered before, but the threads are so long It would take forever finding it. I would like to ask again, and apoligize if repeating question.
What is the best defense against psychic converters? I read in past that they affect both regular crew and computer crews and that I don't think this has been addressed in a patch yet as far as computer crews being affected.

Re: Best defense against pyschic converter?
Aside from MCs, which may or may not help, the best defense is lots of ships. The things only fire once per combat, remember..

Re: Best defense against pyschic converter?
Wave Motion Guns are quite a deterrent - especially using Talismans and Max Range tactics. Sit out past their range and nail 'em....

Re: Best defense against pyschic converter?
An intact MC will prevent any Crew SubVersion.
As soon as the MC is destroyed, the ship will be vulnerable, even if it has no actual crew on board.

Weapons with a long range (e.g. anti proton beam) and if you have it a religious talisman or combat sensors. Maximum weapons range as strategy so the ships with the subverter can't come close enough to fire it. And fighters cannot be targeted by the subverter.

Re: Best defense against pyschic converter?
Repulser Beams, i didn't use them much before, but i'm converted
They're perfect if you're outnumbered against low-range weapons, like the subverter. just put as much RB on your ships as you can target, that way you can fight 5 ships at the same time with Multiplex Tracking(5) , and don't get hurt.

Re: Best defense against pyschic converter?
My first thought, when fighting an AI with Psychic tech, is just to research ship capture and have boarding ships as part of my regular fleets. You can at least recapture the lost ship that way, if you are careful not to destroy it right after it is converted. But for this to work well you must NOT put self-destruct devices in your ships, or boarding defenses. This is fine against the AI which is not bright enough to see the contradiction. But what about a human (or a smartly designed AI) that uses BOTH Converters and Boarding? If you don't put boarding defenses in your ships, they are easily captured. If you DO put boarding defense in your ships they can still be converted and will be tough to recapture. Has anyone ever run up against the strategy? This reminds me of the guy with both shard cannons and PPB that some poor sap was fighting. You can resist one or the other, but not both...

Re: Best defense against pyschic converter?
Baron, I haven't seen human using both, however I'm currently plying hotseat game, 4 human, 10 AI, non-modded, and I took organic to handicap myself as I've never used it and my one human opponet took physic and I have to close with him with Beam weapons as he likes missles, can't stay outside of his range if I want to take him out, but when I close he converts some of my ships, I've used ftrs but his PD defense is pretty good. I'm fighting small engagements away from my core systems in order to learn the ins & outs of organic weapons and equipment. SJ stated MC's but I read somewhere that converters also worked on computers before a patch. We are playing 1.30 as the game is on a friends computer and we didn't want to download the new ones and ruin a good game, so I was wondering if anyone on Forum knew of good defenses against physic when playing against a human or which organic weapons are good to use... I'll try the capture but I'm sure once done, he'll counter. Game is interesting in hot-seat all kinds of dasterdly diplomacy and intell being done, ha, ha, nothing like seeing your enemies face when you steal a planet or two from him.
or see your system hit by plgue bombs. I thought of star destroyers, but against human players, they'll probably return the favor.
tks

Re: Best defense against pyschic converter?
I'm a very dedicated user of the subverter and I really like the bugger! It fires only once and in strategic combat the AI would fire as soon as it gets within range, so the best defense is probably giving your ships as much defensive bonus as possible to make sure your opponent's first shot misses. Stealth armour + scattering armour + ECM III + legendary ship + legendary fleet can be quite devastating to a psychic player who relies too heavily on subverters. Repulser beams might help but max range strategy probably won't. The AI never runs hard enough unless you tell it to "don't get hurt".
I've tried to use both subverters and boarding parties in my fleets, but I never managed to get the boarding parties working properly in strategic combat. Perhaps that's why we haven't seen any AI or human players who use both.
