Starship Troopers Mobile Infantry
I was just wondering on how to model these. To clarify, I mean the book's Mobile Infantry, not the troops featured in that godawful movie.
My main concern is the trooper's armour, since I have no idea how the game engine deals with armoured infantry. One troopers per unit, with a 12 to 16 move radius, very high costs and true to fiction weaponry, like flame throwers and missiles.

Re: Starship Troopers Mobile Infantry
easy.
Just make them helo's. I've started on a starship troopers MOB for the DosMBT game and there's just enougth helo's to do it with.
The Big problem was modeling the Pee-wee. Even a HEK, Weapon size and warhead size of 255, won't do enougth damage.
I have a question, in one segment of hte book there is hte vauge implcation that the Maurder's carry some form of assualt rilfe or other long ranged weapon. Any Ideas on your part?

Re: Starship Troopers Mobile Infantry
I wouldn't want to go the Helo way because the MI didn't fly around; they jumped around and were air dropped to their designated battle areas. Their movement would be like that of an APC.
Attached is a MobHack screen capture of how I solved it. The weapons are pulse laser rifles and HE/AP rockets. Not completely realistic, but it fits rather nicely in my Numenorean mod that I'm making.
I'll get back to you on the Marauder rifle. Somewhere on my harddrives I have an ebook version, which should be easy to search through for keywords.

It's on Planet P, when Rico is 3rd LT, jsut after the bugs break out.
The resaon why I picked helicopters is because MI use NOE, but can bounce high, and terrain doesn't affect them.

Re: Starship Troopers Mobile Infantry
I just reread from when the bugs broke out until Rico was knocked unconscious and I only found references to hand flamers and bombs. The other weapons used were 'tanglefoot' incapacitating nerve gas.

Re: Starship Troopers Mobile Infantry
Maybe you should try making Game Starship Trooper mod. In game , you had both Power Armored troopers from book, and standard infantry from the movie... And do you plan making the bugs mod?

Re: Starship Troopers Mobile Infantry
IIRC the Marauder suit was the standard suit used by all MI. The three types were scout, command, and marauder. Through most if not all of the book Rico wore a marauder suit. The scout suit sacrificed weapons and armor for improved speed and range. The command suit sacrificed weapons for better commo.

Re: Starship Troopers Mobile Infantry
Command suit was twice as fast as a marauder, they made that pretty clear when they landed on P and Captain Blackstone(was it blackstone?) was running ahead to link up with the unit they were replacing.
I'm also really interested in adding power-armored infantry to this game, and, up until about 5 minutes ago, thought I was the only one with the idea.
Nice to see others that are more capable with the modding materials are thinking the same things.
BTW this was my first post.

Re: Starship Troopers Mobile Infantry
The problem in my mind is modelling all of the weapons, most of which Rico doesn't even talk about.
Beyond the mini-nukes, the flamethrowers and hand flamers(there is a difference) the Y-rack, the pellet incendiary grenades and the various gas bombs there wasn't any real mention of rifle type weaponry.
They mentioned rifles while they were training at camp curry but not when they were using the suits.

Re: Starship Troopers Mobile Infantry
My interest in porting the concept of MI to WinSPMBT is in creating an MI *like* unit. I'll equip it with weapons of my own, but I love the idea of highly mobile 1 man "squads" that can be dropped in and wreak havoc on enemy rear areas.
As for porting the movie's troopers, that's simple: Take an average rifle platoon and give it an experience modifier of -40.
