Fire of the Faith theme Qs
Hi,
I've just started a game with Marignon "FoF" theme, which I've never tried before : so I'm not quite sure whether the theme's effect is what I expect !
From the doc, FoF gives "auto level 1 preaching" in each owned province, with "increased" (ditto - eg doubled ?) effect on enemy dominion.
What I understand from that is that a FoF-owned province is easier to convert than normally (whenever you get a province with enemy dominion) , and inversely it's harder for another dominion to convert them. So it looks pretty adapted to immortal pretenders, with a smaller risk to have a dominion "swap" during a turn.
It also helps on "dominion kills" (enemy eliminated when it has no dominion anymore), at which Marignon is naturally good even with base theme.
Apart from that I don't see anything else special - did I miss stg ?
Lastly it looks like the theme is a good deal : you get these special dominion effect for a cheapo 10 points (cost is 50 but minus heat 1 "gain" !). Apart from that you have exactly the same units, mages etc...
Again, am I right in that assumption ?
Thanks

Re: Fire of the Faith theme Qs
Is Heat-1 the heat preference of Fires of the Faith? If so, that will indeed make this theme very cheap; otherwise, taking one level of Heat or two is already an appealing option for Marignon (well, more so than going the Cold way at any rate).
I gather you are right: all it does is make your Dominion spread faster (and the corollary, it slows down enemy Dominions). I am not sure how helpful it is, since Immortal Pretenders live or die according to the Dominion level before the battles, not after. In King of the Hill, Cainehill didn't lose his Glyph in a battle where Dominion fell to 0, though his foe did think the Pretender was dead. That was with 2.15, so it was not linked to an older version being used.

Re: Fire of the Faith theme Qs
Yes, cost is 50 points but Heat-1 is preferred. Not that if you get Heat-3 anyway it eventually costs 50 points...
About dominion and immortals I've never been sure of the way it works... Still having a more difficult to overcome dominion is an advantage for immortals

Re: Fire of the Faith theme Qs
I don't think the heat-1 is a preference. It is a requirement, but it still causes the 5% income loss and related troubles. Just like with Abysia's humanbred theme and Jotun's Niefel theme: part of the cost is having to take an unpreferred temperature-scale.
You can try it if you don't believe me: take Marignon default with no scales and compare it to FoF Marignon with no scales aside from the required heat-1. You'll get 5% less income and 10% less supplies with the latter.

Re: Fire of the Faith theme Qs
Fires of the Faith appear to keep the basic temperature preference of 0, though it requires Heat 1 (this will reduce their income, however). So I guess the theme effectively costs 50 points, since standard Marignon can increase Heat just like Fires of the Faith.
I really should refresh any thread *before* sending in my answer.

Re: Fire of the Faith theme Qs
Ah, ok, it was not that clear..
Cost is indeed 50 points.. and looks more correct for what you get.
