Default Ideas to lessen micromanagement

Hi,

As I have mentioned elsewhere, I enjoy this game tremendously, both SP and MP (the latter which I havent participated in that many times).

One thing I find in my SP games though is that the amount of not-so-interesting micromanagement becomes somewhat overwhelming as the game proceeds. As a result I tend to become rather sloppy with my games, and actually kind of loose interest in them in the long run.

That might be just me of course, but here is anyway two suggestions which I think would be rather simple to implement (I haven't seen the code of course) and would be helpful to many players.

1) Apart from the first few turns, I find myself "doing my taxes" every turn by trying to have a rate of 100 and unrest 0. If the unrest is greater than 0, I adjust my taxes down to approximately 100-unrest.

A flag of "auto-tax" (either per-province or globally) that if set automatically adjusts the tax-rate according to the above formula (or whatever formula implemented for the AI), would really save some bookkeeping.

2) In the early game I am very careful about my site-searching (be it by spell or by commander). Later this can grow to be quite tedious - especially when getting access to a commander with new paths, or a new site-searching spell.

I guess an intelligent search-by-commander AI would also have to deal with issues like deciding where to move, etc. But at least with site-searching spells would it not be an easily implementable idea to let any caster who is set to "monthly ritual" a site-searching spell to simply cast it at random at provinces that havent been searched by a 4+ mage in the appropriate path.

These two issues would remove a lot of the micromanagement from the game, and I would think (in my naivity perhaps) that they shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

Cheers,
Thomas

What about a way to tell your units to move across the map without ordering them to go to an adjacent province every turn? That'd help with people favoring heavy infantry.

BTW, as a warning to anyone who thinks that monthly ritual with site spells work, if you try it, your spellcaster will site search the same province every turn. I learned it the hard way... with Acashic Records
