I reformatted and ran scandisk, no physical errors were found. What happened is my my whole directory structure somehow got trashed. It took me about 2 days to recover my semester project.

I'd hate to sink another $200 into another hard drive for it seeing I only paid $600 for it (PII 233, 64MB). It has been a nice laptop though.

I don't know windoze well enough to know if a FAT32 error is necessarily a physical hd error, but I do know that physical hard drive errors are usually pretty persisnt- in most cases it's best just to get a new drive. Of course if it was just a software error I'm worrying you unnecessrily=-)

I'd suggest installing directX 7 at least.

Also get some up to date virus protection.
Norton utilities allows you to create backups of your FAT (I think) so if it goes pear shaped, you can recover.

Default Is the game crashing or is it my laptop?

I've recently had to reinstall all the software on my laptop (fat table went corrupt... grrrr..). Anyway, I was having problems with SEIV (after a few turns it would just sit there and never come back). I tried reinstalling it and repatching back to 1.35 and now it locks up as soon as I try to run the game.

One thing I'm wondering, I haven't reinstalled DirectX, do you think that is the problem? I looked on the SEIV CD and it doesn't have any Version of DirectX on it so I figured it wasn't necessary and the default one on Win98 would be fine.

One thing, I have been trying to run the Modpack 1.72 if that would make any difference, but since it won't even run now, I'm doubtful if that's it. Other software on my laptop seems unnafected (although SEIV gets most of the time on it ).

So, is it my laptop or have other people experienced this? Thanks in advance.
