Goober question about path.txt
Argh. Please, please forgive my ignorance before reading further. I can get my mods to work if I edit files in the Data directory directly, but I can't seem to get the game to read my dedicated mod directory through the path.txt file. What's up? I've got a single space after the = sign in the pathname, and I've tried every combination of pathname (i.e. just the folder name, the drive designation through the folder name, and every backslash combination in between). Help!?

Re: Goober question about path.txt
Does your mod folder's name have a space in it? This may or may not matter, just a guess.

Re: Goober question about path.txt
Is your custom mod directory directly below the se4.exe executable?

Re: Goober question about path.txt
Hmmm. I was in an alphabetical list view in my Se4 directory. Tried changing that and locating the mod data file directly under the SE4 executable icon, and then I tried renaming the mod data file so it would come directly below the executable in list view. Still no dice. The name of my mod folder now is Se4data, and this is the way my Path.txt file looks:
:= Se4data
Is this right?

Re: Goober question about path.txt
Are you getting an error, or is it simply not using your modified files?
Make sure the folder structure under your Se4data folder matches the default folder structure under the SPACE EMPIRES folder.
i.e. if you are modding the settings.txt file it has to be in "Space Empires IV\Se4data\data\" not simply in "Space Empires IV\Se4data\". If you are adding races they have to be in "Space Empires IV\Se4data\pictures\races\~RACENAME~\" and so on...

Re: Goober question about path.txt
If it were a snake, it woulda bit me.
Yup, sure enough, I didn't have a separate "data" folder under my mod directory. I had just dumped the individual data text files into the mod folder. D'oh!
Thanks, everybody, for the hand-holding. Excuse me while I sheepishly slink off to mod madly.
