Default Can ruins worlds be remote mined?

I tried building a robominer base over a ruins world, since I didn't have the appropriate colony tech yet... but it doesn't report mining anything when I click on it! Is there something hardcoded that prevents ruins worlds from being remote mined? All my other remote miners are functioning normally...

Actually, I think you can only remote mine moons and asteroids. But I could be wrong.

Remote miners should be able to extract resources from any planet, including multiple planets at one location. I don't know the answer to Ed's question though, although it opens up some interesting possibilites.

I've built remote minors (ships) and noticed that they actually are extracting ore on the first turn they are built but, if I recall correctly, it was only over places with moons. NOW, it may actually be that they don't extract over a planet that is colonized (and the moons weren't colonized). (Just guessing again).

I just tried it, I deployed a satelite with a mineral miner in 2 sectors, each with planet and moon, one planet had ruins. The Empire Status screen reported exactly the amount of remote mining expected based on the planet's precentage in each case.

I can't seem to find a place where I would click on the sat to see what it's mining -- maybe a function we're all accustomed to got patched out at some point? Or is that ships and bases only?

Right above (or below) the maintenance values, it lists the resources mined each turn. This is on the main display for the vehicle (the one that shows up when you select it).

Slynky, there is no difference between mining asteroids, "moons," or planets.

How about colonize or uncolonized? I swear, there was a game where I had to build a remote minor in every system and when they first appeared over the planetary shipyard, some had the little blue "mining cart" show up (to show they were mining) and others didn't. What could be the difference?

You cannot mine a colonized world, but uncolonized planets are fine as far as remote mining is concerned. If there was an uncolonized planet in this sector (such as a moon), the remote miners would be working on this uncolonized planet, leaving the colonized planets alone.

In short, you cannot both use planetary based facilities and remote mining from deep space, and if you intend to play a remote-mining race only (that is to say, Nomads or Pirates), you should keep these pesky colony ships far away from your remote mining ships/bases.

You must be mistaken. I am certain this is not allowed. As stated previously, you cannot remote mine a planet that has a colony. Even an enemy colony. The only way you can remote mine a planet is if there is no colony on it. Not just no facilities or even no population. No colony whatsoever.

110. You might be a redneck emperor if you try to strip-mine the ruins of a long dead civilization from low orbit.

Oh...wait....that's a different thread.
