basic modding question
okay, here is the deal. I just did some minor component modding, i guess what i want to do is not doable.
I created a hullsize which needs a bridge, 3 life support, 3 crew quarters.
Then i created a component which gives ship bridge ability, life support ability and crew quarter ability.
Now i want to make it that this component counts as THREE life support and THREE crew quarters. I thought this can be modded with the Value 1 and Value 2 numbers, but it dont seem to work.
Any workaround for this ?
In addition, is it possible to create a ship that actually needs TWO or more bridge components ?
Thanks everyone.
P.S. For modding purposes i need a cheat. I think there is a way how one can take control of an AI empire for just a turn (so i can see if they are doing right)
Is this possible ?
thanks !

Re: basic modding question
Look at the master computer component for ideas.

Re: basic modding question
Master Computer is actually slightly different. It doesn't really satisfy the requirement for those comps, it removes teh need for them. It's a subtle difference, but it can be significant depending on what he's exactly going for.
Have you tried making the component have 7 abilities, 3 separate lines for CQ, and 3 for LS and one for bridge?
No, it's not possible to make a ship require two bridges. In fact it's not possoble to put more then one bridge on a ship. You could fudge something equivalent by makeing a small "secondary bridge" comp that has cargo storage. You can require a ship have a certain percentage of cargo. The player could get around it by putting a regular cargo comp on the ship, but as long as the secondary bridge is smaller then teh regular cargo comp it would be ineffiecnt to do so.
Not sure if there is some other less clunky way to do it.

Re: basic modding question
geoschmo already talked about some of this but I'll still post what I wrote.
I'm not sure about your component ability involving multiple Vehicle Control abilities. I have to give that a try later when I get the chance because I'm at work. Hopefully someone can help you right away with this issue.
I notice when you design a ship in your design window, it won't allow you to add another bridge. But you can add extra master computer components. Sometimes in star trek, some ships have a battle bridge, so I created a component for that but it based off the Auxiliary Control component not the bridge component. So I'm not sure if it is possible to create a ship with two or more bridge components. You might be out of luck or create a bridge but base it off the Auxiliary Control component like I did.

To take control of the AI, when you are in a game, go to the main menu and their should be a tab for players (going off memory) and you should see a list of all the races that are playing for the game. Uncheck the AI race you want to control and hit the end turn button. You can see what they did up to that point. If you want to give the race back to the AI, go back to the players tab and recheck the box for the AI race.
Hope that helps.

Re: basic modding question
One component can only count as one LS and/or one CQ (it can be both, as well as a bridge!). Giving it extra abilities does NOT allow it to fulfill extra requirements of the hull.
