Default OT - Favorite Comedies

Just curious about what everyone's favorite comedies are. My top 5 are:

Silverstreak - Pryor and Wilder at their prime, and involves trains. 'nuff said.

Ruthless People - one of those dark comedies that is funny as heck

What About Bob? - I saw this while I was a mental health tech in the Air Force, and it's just hilarious

Loverboy - Extra anchiove, anyone?

It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World - probably the greatest collection of comedians ever for that era, missing only Bob Hope.

What's your Favorites?

Second City Television!!! What a great series that was!!!! It was like Saturday Nite Live for Canadians. Well, at least they had about as many stars; John Candy, Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, etc...

That was one of my Favorites of all time. I wish it was still on in my area....

Oh yeah, Kids in the hall was great.

Also SPaced and Black books, two fairly obscure but utterly brilliant britcoms.

THe Mary Whitehouse Experience was good, I wish they'd reshow that.

THe League of Gentleman is very good, that has to be mentioned.

Simpsons, of course. And South Park while I'm at it.

As for films... much anything by the Cohen bros, really.

Hmm, I was thinking more of movies when I started this, but there are a great number of tv shows over the years that are great also, and should be mentioned. I grew up watching a lot of the stuff that's now on TV Land or Nick At Nite. Beverly Hillbillies is still outstanding in my book, and to a lesser degree I Dream of Jeanie. But for those who prefer more modern shows, Married With Children, Simpsons and King of the Hill are pretty good. Someone mentioned Red Dwarf, and I'd have to say that's my all-time favorite comedy. There may be more recent and funnier shows, but I don't get a chance to watch much tv, between the missus watching SoapNet and playing SEIV.

hmmm, Favorite comedies eh?,..

Movies:

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
The Princess Bride
Cadyshack
L.A. Story
Naked Gun
Edit: I just had to add "The Court Jester" to this list.

TV Shows:

Monty Python
Benny Hill
M.A.S.H.
Barney Miller
The Carol Burnett Show

Yes I know I'm an old fart, but you youngsters have no idea what you missed. Today's comedy movies and shows are but a pale reflection of the good old days.

Oh, I don't know about that. I think we're about the same age, David, but I couldn't really get into Carol Burnett or Barney Miller. I watched them, but they were ok. Not belly busters, as far as I"m concerned. Monty Python is also ok, but I haven't really seen a lot of them to get an appreciation of the series. Although I do like the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I always saw the edited Benny Hill on late night tv. Maybe if I could see the unedited Versions of his shows. One show that I couldn't stand was Steinfield. Just couldn't get into it.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil
Pryor and Wilder

This was hilarious.
I had to share tape with my neighbors.
He is legally blind (programmer for the IRS) and she is deaf.
It took them over 4 hours to experience the film together.
They kept pausing it to do the Helen Keller talk with each other.
