Anyone still play SEIV Gold unmodded?
I was curious if anyone still enjoys playing the SEIV unmodded?
Also what would be good game settings if you wanted a challenging unmodded game?
Thank you!

Re: Anyone still play SEIV Gold unmodded?
Grab the TDM AIs for a great unmodded game challenge.
Other things you can do include cranking up the AI bonus, playing simultaneous turn mode and restricting yourself from using the most advantageous tactics.
Taking over for a neutral empire while leaving your original empire to be run by the AI will be very challenging (Your ships can't use the warppoints!)
Limiting yourself to colonizing a small number of systems (say 2) also makes for an interesting economic and tactical challenge.

The majority of PBW games use unmodded SE4.

I only play SE4 unmodded when I want to test something, or tech someone the rules.
Even the most casual game I play needs the TDM modpack.
And I'm still trying to develop good designs for P&N normals.

Re: Anyone still play SEIV Gold unmodded?
So far, I've only played using the TDM and the Proportions mods. I finally d/l the Star Trek mod, so I'll be checking that out. I'm currently trying to gather most of the mods that are available, but my computer time is limited, and I just don't have the time to play a lot of SEIVG. Mostly, I just play it when I'm d/l things, and since I have dial-up, I get to play the game a lot during those sessions.

That's odd. SE is a very low end software. You should be able to find some second-hand, 3-5 years comp under $200 that would play SEIV just fine !

Re: Anyone still play SEIV Gold unmodded?
Practically every game I play is unmodded. 99% of the KOTH games are unmodded. The PBW tourney is unmodded.
I haven't taken a "stroll" through the PBW games in progress but if your point is that you are having a hard time finding an unmodded game to play in, perhaps you haven't looked hard enough.

So true. TDM really binds se4 together, it is absolutely; a must have

My computer can handle SEIV with no problems. My problem is the lack of time to play it. I'm just saying that when I'm d/l, since I'm using dial-up, it takes awhile for a 10-20 meg program to d/l. so while I"m waiting for that, I'll play SE. I can't think of too many other games that will let you play and be connected at the same time (except maybe those that are geared for multi-play, but I don't play mp games).

Buy broad-band and you SE time will cut short. I wonder, is it a new good line for TV commercials ?
