Getting a bit confused with mining!
hopefully this is my Last question, I can not figure out mining, I created a mineral mining ship out of a frigate, and I was wondering how am i meant to make a profit, on the window it says maintence 2365 and mining amount 2160, and obviously when you detuct these, it costs more maintence, but on the empire status my total mineral goes up, so I was wondering how much am i making?

Re: Getting a bit confused with mining!
Generally, remote mining is frequently not worth it as you have discovered. For more information, see section 4.6 of the Newbie FAQ.

It shows an increase mineral income, but your net minerals after deductions for maintenance is going down. The ship is costing you more then it's getting you. Not uncomomon with mineral miners on small ships like that. You need a bigger ship with more mineral miner comps, or reduce your empire maint at game setup to make small ship mining break even.
You might find small ship mining for rads or organics worthwhile, but probably not. A lot of people don't use remote mining at all because it's so inefficent.
I think there are some more things about it in the newbie FAQ.

Re: Getting a bit confused with mining!
your mineral's are probably going up from your planet's. most people use either bases or satelite's for remote mining. remote mining also lower's the value by 1% per turn in an infinite resource game. this can be turned off in the settings.txt.

Re: Getting a bit confused with mining!
mineral mining becomes worthwhile with destroyer+ ship sizes (read - at least 2 mining components) and on the more profitable places - asteroids go as high as 300%, use those...
With maintenance reduction + crystallurgy mining can be very profitable, if time consuming...
Dont forget tho the resources run out unless you check it off in settings.txt
